Fleet Foxes – Blue Ridge Mountains (MAKESHIFT Edit)

Fleet Foxes have undoubtedly become one of my favorite bands in this last year. When Chris Keys at Another Night on Earth mentioned that he might be compiling a bunch of slower tempo edits, their song Blue Ridge Mountains immediately came to mind.

Time Creeps featured on Makossa and Megablast show

You may know Makossa and Megablast from the excellent Vienna-based G-Stone recordings. Independently, Marcus MOKASSA Wagner-Lapierre has been DJing, remixing and producing since the mid-80’s not to mention his running of the infamous Viennese indie radio station FM4 since 1995 AAAND his compiling of over 20 different compilations.

Megablast is no newcomer either, having been DJing since the 90’s, heavy into all forms of dance music and producing remixes and releases for G-Stone, Afroart and !K7 in addition to his debut album “Creation” on Stereo Deluxe in ‘03.

Needless to say, I was more than tickled pink to have had Time Creeps been featured on Mokassa’s radio show on FM4, the Swound Sound System. Unfortunately, the show only streams live, so you can only check the track listing in the comments section on their myspace page for proof , however it’s definitely worth doing the time change math to tune in next time.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: ILIJA RUDMAN

Straight off the disco train, Ilija Rudman has a deep seeded disco and new-funk vibe that I can’t get enough of. He has a string of remixes on Love Is War Music including the sinister and super Metro-Areaish After Midnight (see video below). In fact, the DJ/Producer recently played a gig with Darshan in Ilija’s home of Croatia so you know there’s at least some admiration or similar influence. After Midnight also has an awesome remix by LSB!

Be sure to google him and find such wonderful music, it will make you wonder why you too are not out late looking for your long lost love?

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: KELLY POLAR

I’ve had Kelly Polar’s latest album, I Need You To Hold On While the Sky is Falling, on repeat in the car for many moons. His production style is unparalleled IMO and he has a uniquely unpop voice that’s more like a musical alto. In fact, though I haven’t confirmed this, I Need You To Hold On seems to me a kind of opera or musical, expressing in many songs the anguish of unrequited love in it’s different forms. Many of the songs have an almost vengful tone that make me think he wrote the songs having recently broken up with someone or making the protagonist of his songs doing just that.I could be wrong however, that’s just a thought. I always thought that this song, Chrysanthemum, was about the pain of breakup and wanting revenge (though not necessarily taking it). However, after more listening, it could be about nuclear war. You be the judge…
